Upper Mustang Trekking – 17 Days

Bring your dream into Reality
Duration: 17 Days
Location: Mustang
Transport: Flight, Jeep,Bus
Description

Trekking in the Kingdom of Mustang is a journey through a largely unexplored and little-known territory. This isolated region still preserves its rich cultural heritage and Tibetan way of life. Until 1950, the Mustang district was a separate kingdom within Nepal. The king, the Raja of Mustang, still resides in the historic capital, Lo Manthang.

The region is divided into Upper Mustang (the restricted area) and Lower Mustang. A special permit is required to visit the upper area, and you must travel with a group of at least two tourists. The most convenient way to trek in Mustang is by flying from Pokhara to Jomsom, where the trek begins. The flight itself is an attraction, as it flies over one of the deepest canyons in the world, the Kali Gandaki. There is also the option of traveling by vehicle, but it is much longer and more strenuous. Protected from the monsoon by the 8,000-meter peak Dhaulagiri, the landscape is completely desolate, surrounded by rocks of all colors and strange formations.

We propose a 17-day circular trek that allows you to discover the pure and simple lifestyle of the Lopa people, who inhabit the valley, along with the stunning desert landscape composed of stones of all colors and strange formations. The hiking days of the Mustang trek are very pleasant and offer the opportunity to experience the simple life of the people who live in these isolated mountains. Let yourself go and enjoy unique experiences in the incredible villages of the kingdom and discover the kindness of the people of Mustang.

Recommended season

The best time for trekking in the Kingdom of Mustang is from March to November. Because it's sheltered by the Dhaulagiri massif, it can also be visited during the summer months (June, July, and August). March and November tend to be colder, so dress warmly. Your gear will be your best friend on the mountain. Take a look at our list of essential equipment for a climb in Nepal.
