A guided trek in the Nepal Himalaya costs roughly $600 to $2,000 per person for most routes, plus international flights and insurance. A short one-week trek sits at the bottom of that range; Everest Base Camp and the longer Annapurna routes sit near the top.

Below we break down where the money goes, what a one-week trek costs and how to keep the budget down without cutting corners on safety.

How much does it cost to hike the Himalayas?

The total depends on four things: how many days you walk, whether you need internal flights, whether you hire a guide and porter, and the season.

TrekDaysTypical guided price per person
Ghorepani Poon Hill7–8$600–$900
Mardi Himal8–9$700–$1,000
Gosaikunda Lake10–11$850–$1,100
Annapurna Base Camp with Poon Hill13–14$1,150–$1,450
Everest Base Camp14–15$1,300–$1,800
Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake16–17$1,300–$1,700
Everest Three High Passes19–20$1,750–$2,300

These are package prices with a licensed guide, porter, permits, teahouses and meals on the trek.

Himalayan trek cost for a week

If you only have a week, the Annapurna region is the best value because you reach the trailhead by road from Pokhara, with no mountain flight.

  • Ghorepani Poon Hill (7–8 days): about $600–$900 with a guide and porter. Highest point 3,210 m.
  • Mardi Himal (8–9 days): about $700–$1,000. A quieter ridge walk to 4,500 m.
  • Langtang Valley (9–10 days): about $800–$1,100, reached by road from Kathmandu.

Everest treks cost more for a week because the Lukla flight alone is a large share of the budget.

Where the money goes

  • Guide and porter. A licensed guide costs around $25–$35 a day and a porter $20–$25 a day, including their food, lodging and insurance. Since 2023, foreign trekkers in most national parks must walk with a licensed guide.
  • Permits. Each region needs a national park or conservation area permit, usually $20–$30 each. Restricted areas such as Upper Mustang and Manaslu cost far more and need a minimum of two trekkers.
  • Teahouses and meals. A room costs $5–$15 a night. Meals cost $25–$40 a day, rising with altitude because everything is carried up by porters or yaks.
  • Transport. Kathmandu to Pokhara is about $25 by tourist bus or around $100 by air. The Lukla flight for Everest treks costs a few hundred dollars return.
  • Extras. Hot showers, Wi‑Fi and phone charging cost $2–$5 each higher up. Budget $100–$150 for tips for your guide and porter.
  • Before you arrive. A 30-day Nepal tourist visa costs $50 on arrival. Travel insurance with helicopter rescue up to your highest altitude is essential.

What a package includes

With Unique Nepal, trek prices include airport pickup, Kathmandu hotel nights, internal transport, a licensed guide who speaks English or Spanish, one porter for every two trekkers, teahouses, three meals a day on the trek, permits, and a first-aid kit and oximeter. Our Everest Base Camp Trek – 14 Days currently starts from $1,350.

How to keep the cost down

  • Trek in a group of two or more. Guide and porter costs are shared.
  • Choose a road-access trek. Poon Hill, Mardi Himal, Langtang and Gosaikunda avoid mountain flights.
  • Go in shoulder season. Late November and early March have lower demand and fewer crowds.
  • Refill water. Bring a filter or purification tablets instead of buying bottled water.

What we do not recommend: skipping the guide in restricted areas, cutting acclimatisation days or travelling without rescue insurance.
