Overview

A journey through the Himalayas

The Annapurna Base Camp trek takes you into the Annapurna Sanctuary, a high glacial basin closed in on every side by mountains over 7,000 m. Wake up at 4,130 m with Annapurna I, Hiunchuli and the fishtail summit of Machapuchare glowing pink at sunrise around you.

From Pokhara you drive to the trailhead and walk through Gurung villages like Ghandruk and Chhomrong, past terraced fields and into thick bamboo and rhododendron forest along the Modi Khola river. The valley narrows, the forest gives way to grass and moraine, and after Machapuchare Base Camp the Sanctuary opens up. On the way down you soak tired legs in the natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda.

It suits walkers with average fitness who can handle long stone staircases, 5–6 hours a day. The altitude is lower than Everest, which makes ABC a great first Himalayan trek.

Why book with us: local guides from the Annapurna region, English or Spanish-speaking, hand-picked teahouses and flexible dates for private groups.

Difficulty & fitness Moderate

5 to 7 hours a day with some steep sections. Suits active beginners.
