Overview

A journey through the Himalayas

The Everest Base Camp trek is the walk most trekkers dream about, and for good reason. In 14 days you fly into the Himalaya, follow the Sherpa trail up the Khumbu valley and stand at 5,364 m beside the Khumbu Icefall, where Everest expeditions begin. Next morning you climb Kala Patthar (5,545 m) for the closest sunrise view of Everest any trekker can get.

The route starts with the scenic flight to Lukla. From there you cross high suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi river to Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital. You visit the Tengboche monastery, walk through the yak pastures of Dingboche and pass the climbers' memorials at Thukla before reaching Gorak Shep and Base Camp. Two acclimatisation days, at Namche and Dingboche, give your body time to adjust.

This trek suits anyone in good health who can walk 5–7 hours a day on uneven trails. You do not need climbing experience, but you should train for a few months with long hill walks or stair climbing. Altitude is the main challenge, and our pace is built around it.

Why book with us: your guide is a licensed local who grew up in the mountains, and you can choose an English or Spanish-speaking guide. Groups are small, our guides carry an oximeter and first-aid kit, and we can move dates or run the trek privately if you prefer.

Difficulty & fitness Challenging

Long days and high passes. Some previous hiking experience recommended.

Questions

Before you go

Flights run with experienced mountain pilots but depend on weather. We recommend 1–2 spare days at the end of your trip for delays.
Everest's summit is hidden behind the Khumbu Icefall from Base Camp itself. You get the best close view from Kala Patthar the next morning.
Simple teahouses with twin rooms, shared bathrooms and a heated dining room. Rooms are not heated, so bring a warm sleeping bag.
Yes, if you are healthy and train beforehand. No climbing skills are needed; the challenge is altitude, not technique.
