Overview

A journey through the Himalayas

Himlung is one of the most accessible 7,000 m peaks in Nepal, near the Tibetan border. The climb is mostly snow slopes and glacier, with a few steeper sections on fixed ropes.

Drive to Koto and trek up the narrow Nar Phu gorge to the medieval village of Phu, with a rest day there. Set up base camp at 4,850 m, then climb via Camp 1 (5,400 m), Camp 2 (6,100 m) and Camp 3 (6,350 m) to the summit. Walk back to Koto and drive to Kathmandu.

Climbers with at least one 6,000 m peak behind them who want to step up to 7,000 m without the technical difficulty of Ama Dablam or Baruntse.

Why book with us: Experienced climbing Sherpas, a Spanish-speaking guide on the approach, and road access only, so no Lukla flight delays.

Difficulty & fitness Strenuous

Remote, very high terrain. For fit and experienced trekkers.

Questions

Before you go

Yes. The route is long but not very technical, and base camp is reached without flights. You still need crampon and fixed-rope skills from a 6,000 m peak.
Most climbers summit without it. We can supply oxygen for the summit day on request, at extra cost.
It is a restricted area near the Tibetan border. You need the permit, a licensed guide and at least two people; we arrange it all.
The long summit day from Camp 3, often 10–12 hours return, with steady snow slopes and wind on the upper ridge.
