Overview

A journey through the Himalayas

The Mardi Himal trek is the best-kept secret of the Annapurna region. A narrow ridge climbs out of the forest above Pokhara and leads you, day by day, straight towards the sheer face of Machapuchare, with Annapurna South and Hiunchuli beside it.

You walk from Kande through Australian Camp into moss-hung rhododendron forest, then up to Low Camp and High Camp, where the views open up. A pre-dawn hike takes you to Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500 m before you descend to the farming village of Siding.

It suits fit walkers with a week to spare who want real mountain views without the crowds. Teahouses are simpler than on the main routes.

Why book with us: guides who know the new ridge teahouses, small groups and an easy combination with Poon Hill or a Pokhara rest day.

Difficulty & fitness Moderate

5 to 7 hours a day with some steep sections. Suits active beginners.
