The Annapurna region is Nepal's most varied trekking area. In a single trip you can walk from subtropical rice terraces to glaciers, through Gurung and Magar villages where trekkers have been welcomed for generations. Most treks start from Pokhara, a relaxed lakeside town.
The best seasons are March to May and October to November. The Annapurna Circuit, which lies partly in a rain shadow, is also one of the few routes that works in the monsoon.
There is a trek here for everyone: Poon Hill for beginners and families, Annapurna Base Camp and Mardi Himal for fit walkers, and the Circuit over the 5,416 m Thorong La for experienced trekkers.
