Poon Hill (3,210 m) is the best short trek in Nepal. From Pokhara you climb stone staircases through Magar villages and rhododendron forest to Ghorepani, then rise before dawn for a sunrise over Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South and Machapuchare.
It works almost all year, and in March and April the forests turn red and pink with flowers. Altitude stays low, so the risk of altitude sickness is small.
It suits beginners, families with children over about 8, and travellers with only a few days.
